POLICE POLEMICS
Forty-nine-year-old Praveen Kumar is not only an upright police officer but also a poet and a prolific writer too. His second book on police – Policing the Police – an analytical study of the philosophy and field dynamics of the policing in practice – was published recently.
The book highlights various problem areas including defective selection and recruitment, unsound training and unhealthy job culture and identifies likely solutions for its redemption.
Mr.Praveen Kumar, born in Mangalore, had joined the Indian Police Service in 1978 as a Deputy Superintendent of Police and had worked in various parts of the State. He worked as Superintendent of Police in State Intelligence, Corps of Detectives and as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bangalore City Armed Reserve Force). At present, he is servicing as Superintendent of Police (Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement Cell ) in Bangalore.
Policing the Police is his second work on the subject.
The first one Police for the New Age was published in 1992. He has four books to his credit, two in English and two in Kannada.
